Sortsmith

Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 16, 2026  |  App version: 1.0 and later

Short version: Sortsmith does not collect or send your data to us. The app stores only the local settings and file metadata needed to watch folders, apply rules, and show activity on your Mac.

1. Who We Are

Sortsmith ("the App") is developed and distributed by Ron Yahav ("we", "us", or "our"). Questions about this policy can be sent to privacy@ronyahav.com.

2. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

Sortsmith stores the following information locally inside its macOS sandbox so it can function:

This information is stored locally using standard macOS app storage such as Core Data, UserDefaults, and security-scoped bookmarks. We do not receive a copy of it.

3. Permissions and File Access

Sortsmith accesses only the folders you explicitly allow it to watch or use as destinations, plus any macOS-granted access required for app functionality. The app uses security-scoped bookmarks so it can continue accessing authorized folders later without repeatedly asking for permission.

When the app processes a file, it uses that file's name, path, extension, and size to evaluate your rules and carry out the action you selected. Sortsmith does not upload file contents or transmit file metadata to us.

4. Information We Do Not Collect or Transmit

Sortsmith does not collect, store on our servers, transmit, or share:

5. Third-Party Services

Sortsmith does not include third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or external tracking services. The app's core functionality is local-only and does not require network requests to our servers.

6. Apple and Mac App Store Distribution

If you download Sortsmith from the Mac App Store, Apple may collect information related to purchases, downloads, diagnostics, or usage under Apple's own policies. Those practices are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one.

We may receive limited aggregated App Store reporting from Apple, such as download counts by region, but not your personal file data or the contents of your local Sortsmith database.

7. Your Control Over Local Data

You can remove watched folders, delete rules, clear the activity log, and revoke folder permissions through the app or through macOS privacy settings. If you delete the app, it will no longer process files, though local app data may remain in backups or on disk until removed by you or by the system.

8. Children's Privacy

Sortsmith is a productivity utility intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Because the app does not send personal data to us, we do not operate a child-directed data collection service.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
