Beaver

Privacy Policy

Effective date: January 1, 2025  ·  App version: 1.0 and later

Short version: Beaver does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. Everything stays on your Mac.

1. Who We Are

Beaver ("the App") is developed and distributed by Ron Yahav ("we", "us", or "our") at ronyahav.com. Questions about this policy can be sent to privacy@ronyahav.com.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

Beaver does not collect, store, transmit, or share:

3. Local Storage Only

The App stores your preferences (such as your chosen hotkey and launch-at-login setting) in macOS UserDefaults, which is a local file on your Mac. This data never leaves your device.

The App also uses a shared App Group container to pass operation commands between the main app and the Finder Sync Extension. This container exists only on your local machine and is not accessible to any network service.

4. Apple Events & Finder Access

Beaver uses Apple Events (AppleScript) to read the list of files currently selected in Finder. This is used solely to identify which files you want to operate on. The App reads selection data in real-time and does not log, cache, or transmit it. You will be prompted by macOS to grant this permission on first launch; you can revoke it at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.

5. File Operations

Beaver performs file operations (rename, move, extension change, etc.) at your explicit direction. The App does not read file contents, upload files, or transmit file metadata. All operations are performed locally using macOS system APIs.

6. Third-Party Services

Beaver does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics providers, advertising networks, or cloud platforms. The App makes no network requests of any kind.

7. Mac App Store Distribution

Beaver is distributed through the Apple Mac App Store. Apple may collect usage and crash data as described in Apple's own Privacy Policy. We receive only aggregated, anonymous App Store analytics (number of downloads, territory) and have no access to individual user data through Apple's systems.

8. Children's Privacy

Beaver is a productivity utility intended for general audiences. It does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the relevant age in your jurisdiction). Because the App collects no data from anyone, no special measures for children's data are required.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective date" at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Material changes will be communicated via an App update note on the Mac App Store.
